With the growing popularity of minivans and suv’s, rear A/C units have also grown in popularity. Along with that growth, the A/C service and repair industry has seen a dramatic increase in the fact that the rear refrigerant lines on these vehicles have become common leak areas. That’s because the lines carrying the refrigerant to the rear evaporator run the entire length of the vehicle, under the vehicle. That leaves them exposed to harsh weather conditions and abrasion. To date, the only real repair has been to replace the complete line assembly which is only available from the original vehicle manufacturer or dealer.
Now, the Rear A/C Line Repair Kits eliminate the need to have to replace the complete line. These kits let you simply remove the damaged or corroded section of line and replace just that section. Kits are available for each of the four common sizes of rear A/C lines; 3/8", 1/2", 5/8" and 3/4" O.D. (Outside Diameter) tubes. What best about these repair kits is that they can easily be installed without any special tools or crimping.
In some cases, the complete kit is not required. Where only small sections of the line leak, they can be removed and replaced with just one compression union, joining the remaining ‘good’ sections of the lines back together.
Installation requires that the original line be cut with a tube cutter in order to make a clean, burr free cut on the line. Then simply install the compression nut and ferrule. Install the tube end into the compression union body and tighten the nut to 10-12 ft. lbs. Then, loosen the nut and remove the tube. Install the o-ring (supplied), lubricate the o-ring and reinstall the tube into the compression union body. Tighten the compression union nut for a leak free joint.

Finally leaks in the rear A/C lines on Vans, Minivans, SUV's and Suburbans do not have to be completely replaced! Use the new rear A/C line repair kits to remove the damaged or corroded section of tube. Then simply install the compression unions and tube to replace the corroded section.
In cases where the area to be replaced is small, the repair can be completed by simply removing a short section of the original tube and installing one compression union. Review all the details on - Rear A/C Line Repair Kits | |
